چکیده
The extensive usage and improper disposal of pharmaceuticals have the potential to contaminate the water and sediments. Diclofenac is a widely prescribed non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that has been frequently detected in surface waters worldwide. There are evidences of its toxicity in aquatic organisms like phytoplankton, zooplankton and fish. The present study aims to investigate the biochemical alterations induced by Diclofenac in fresh water fish, Channa punctatus. Phospholipids, the major biochemical constituents of the cell membrane were taken as biomarkers. The acute toxicity assays were performed by exposing the fish to three different concentrations 5ppm, 25ppm and 50ppm of diclofenac. The effect was observed in different tissues like gill, liver, brain, muscle and kidney after 24h, 48h, 72h, and 96h of exposure with respect to control. Phospholipids were estimated by Zilversmidth and Davis method. Diclofenac exposure on fish at the set concentrations has caused reduction in the phospholipid level of different tissues when compared to control. The findings of the study assume that diclofenac causes biochemical alterations in fish which leads to the impairment of health status of the fish.

متن کاملAlterations in biochemical profile of liver and ovary in zinc-exposed fresh water murrel, Channa punctatus (Bloch).
Sub-chronic exposure (15 days) of Channa punctatus to sub-lethal concentrations of zinc (10, 15 and 25 Zn mg l(-1)) resulted in a significant decline of hepatic and ovarian glycogen, cholesterol, total proteins and total lipids. DNA and RNA contents were also estimated in the ovary. These parameters simultaneously decline with an increase in dose and duration of the experiment. A decline in all...

The genotoxic and mutagenic potential of medicinal plant Jatropha gossypifolia, was investigated in fresh water fish Channa punctatus in the present study using micronucleus assay and comet assay. Fishes were exposed at 20% and 40% of the 24 h-LC50 value of plant extract containing Apigenin (76.48 mg L ) and crude latex (22.33 mg L). Both the test chemicals induced significant (P<0.05) genotoxi...
متن کاملEffect of tannery waste water on lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) enzyme activity of fresh water fish, Channa punctatus
Channa punctatus is the most common fish found in Indian rivers and water bodies. The present study was conducted to investigate the dilution effect of tannery waste water on the activity of serum LDH enzyme of the Indian freshwater fish Channa punctatus. The effect was observed based on the result of chronic toxicity and comparison of control with experimental groups. Tannery wastewater causes...

Glucose was administered to a fresh water teleost, Channa punctatus. Three groups of 40 fish each were injected intramuscularly with 2, 1 and 2 g/kg body weight glucose. Blood glucose level of the experimental fish was assayed according to Nelson (1944) at predetermined intervals, ranging from 0 to 120 hr post-injection. The principal islets were removed at autopsy and fixed for histological ex...
